Client

GoMindego is a fund-raising campaign by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) to protect 1,047-acre Mindego Hill in La Honda, California. With donor support, POST seeks to preserve Mindego Hill’s visual impact, wildlife habitat, watershed resources and recreation potential for the benefit of all.

Challenge

Bring land preservation campaign fundraising efforts online

Since its founding in 1977, POST has been responsible for saving 60,000 acres as permanent open space and parkland in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. The GoMindego project was the organization’s first concentrated online marketing effort for a campaign, and they wanted to appeal to a broader audience than typically contributes through their offline channels. All marketing materials and media would point to the site for online giving, so the website component had to be a showcase piece that reaffirmed offline campaign elements and direct marketing materials.

Solution

Create an experiential online destination showcasing Mindego hill and offering inspirational calls to action

SolutionSet leveraged the POST logo for the header but went with a bigger, bolder design and color palette, similar to what would appeal to the demographic who reads outdoors magazines and shops at REI. They created a showcase Flash animation with custom illustrations and birdsong audio, showcased images of past donors to give contributors a face, created a grass "thermometer" to measure campaign contributions progress, and developed a Flash timeline and photo gallery to help guests of the site better familiarize themselves with Mindego Hill’s past, present, and future. A third party, GiftTool, completed the online donation form. The end result: a great-looking site, with great personality, for a great cause.
